Dazzling Dubrovnik

Croatia Day 2 – Sat 16th May 2015 – Dubrovnik

It would be impossible not to fall in love with Dubrovnik, a city that has everything … history, food, scenery – beauty wherever you look. This morning I did the compulsory wall walk, which is amazing, with the sun breaking through to enable the Adriatic to show its sparkling best. After that I just strolled around the beautiful Old Town, which is surrounded by the wall and is car free. All the streets and lane ways are tiled in a beautiful smooth marble-like stone.  I couldn’t resist buying some delicious dried figs and orange peel at the Saturday morning market.  Then the highlight of the day was a procession down Stradun (the main street in Old Town) of about 30 people dressed in national costume and singing Klapa music. When I asked some locals what they were celebrating they said it was the strawberry festival, the first day of the season that strawberries are sold. Will take it easy this afternoon and will retire early tonight because I have a 70 Km hilly ride tomorrow from Dubrovnik to Neum in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Only about a thousand Km to go now, so glad I brought my proper Canondale touring bike with me.

Loving the pix my friend.. sitting at my desk here in Sydney looking through software renewals, and the relevant CPI increases and could only look on wistfully at the many beautiful sights you’re experiencing in your adventures.. what a vista! ..and had to laugh at the bleached white bloomers hanging up too, you crack me up.

Keep an eye out for my old love Larisa.. I feel so nostalgic looking through your lens.

    Thanks for sharing Kevin.

Kevin I’ve received a suggestion from Larisa (who loves your blog, and incidentally is currently based in China.. so maybe you won’t spot her in Istria after all).

    Larisa mentioned..
“Tell Kevin to cycle inner Istria as this is the amazing part especially for bikes. villages like groznjan and motovun which is just a little detour from the coast where he is going to. but super well worth it believe me! ..if Kevin needs more info about “wild places” aka where less people go to i can help or connect him to some people there, give contacts etc”.

Bless Larisa, she’s a good soul..

    Catch you soon mate, Alex
