Yet another big English breakfast, so I decided I am going on a diet after this! Even with all the riding I have been doing, I am sure there has been a nett weight gain because calories in exceed calories out.

The forecast today looked grim. I was expecting rain all day on my final leg of the tour, but as it turned out not a drop of rain fell until about 15 km from Chesham. However it was such a dull day that the photos are disappointing.

Hertfordshire greeted me with a magnificent display of rhododendrons at the appropriately named Tudor Manor, but unfortunately, my photos don’t do them justice.

Being Sunday, there were lots of cyclists whizzing along the country roads and lanes and, as is the custom here, they always exchange a friendly greeting, nod, or wave.

It is always sad when a tour finishes, but especially my tour of Norfolk and surrounding counties. As I idled along I couldn’t help reflecting on what a marvellous tour it has been … stunning scenery, lovely villages, “Escape to the Country” houses, perfect cycling conditions, and very little rain. On some days I was blessed with perfect blue skies, which is rare in England at this time if year.

I love this country and I love bike touring. Life is good if you embrace it!

Love your spirit, Dad! Gorgeous town and country photos – beautiful houses and gardens and baby birds to boot – just magical! And glad to see Oliver has his stamp on St Albans 🙂
