“Stay foolish to stay sane” ~ Maxime Lagacé

My third last day of riding in the Netherlands was as good as it gets. Yesterday the RijnWaalpad was superb but the cycleways today we’re almost as good, with a mixture of fietspads, fietstraats, and even a few Km of cycle superhighway. I particularly enjoyed the F59 Fast Cycle Route all the way from Oss to s-Hertogenbosch.

I could not fault the route that cycle.travel dished up for me. Apart from the quality of the riding surfaces, the scenery was an interesting mix of countryside, animals, spic & span towns and lovely houses decorated with colourful gardens.

A cafe in the lovely town of Oss provided temporary shelter from the misty rain and sated my caffeine craving.

Tonight I am staying in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, but that is a bit of a mouthful so I will call it by it’s other name Den Bosch. It is the capital of the province of North Brabant and has a population of around 150,000 people. The city is known for its historic architecture including the Gothic-style St. John’s Cathedral, as well as its cultural and artistic scene. ‘s-Hertogenbosch is also famous for its annual carnival celebrations which are among the largest in the Netherlands.

I can’t believe that tomorrow is my penultimate day of riding. This tour has gone too quickly.

Gorgeous wildflowers (and lovely dahlias and sunflowers), and beautiful animals – love the deer, and the cheeky donkeys! Unusual water sculpture – what is that creature, eating the human?! Hope you enjoy the last leg of your tour 🙂

The water sculpture had me intrigued too. I don’t know what the creature is but I decided not to go for a dip anyway. Looking forward to a leisurely 50 km ride today because I can’t board the ferry until 8 pm.
