“To me, it doesn’t matter whether it’s raining or the sun is shining or whatever: as long as I’m riding a bike I know I’m the luckiest guy in the world.” ~ Mark Cavendish

Excitement is building because I have a short ride to Brussels where I am going to rendezvous with my wife, who is catching the Eurostar from London to spend three days with me. Can’t wait to see her!

Another day, another blue sky … ho hum. Sunday morning in Belgium, with hundreds of cyclists out for a ride with their mates. I find it fascinating that most of the riding groups are uniformly clad in the same cycling jerseys … I can’t imagine our Gentle Giants group in Sydney all attired the same!

It matters not that I pass through dozens of nondescript towns with nodescript houses, nor that I ride past endless crops of corn and wheat. What matters is that I am out riding on Belgium’s perfect cycle paths on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. Nor does it matter that I am being passed by lots of uniformed cyclists who are a lot younger and fitter than I am.

My Garmin took me right to the door of our apartment near Grand Place, Grote Markt, in Brussels. If you look at the photos of the buildings you will understand why it is called “Grand Place”. And all the food places have got me salivating. I think we are going to enjoy our stay in Brussels!
