The 3 Km steep climb out of Piran was a nice heart starter and gave me a chance to stop and sneak a few last looks down on this beautiful little town. Today was the last day of my tour from Dubrovnik, so I wanted to savour the ride. After a couple of Km of horrendous traffic on the main 111 route immediately after leaving Piran I turned off onto the D8 cycle path, which took me through some delightful orchards and vineyards.

I continued on good dedicated bike paths through Izola and Koper, then another path alongside the sea took me all the way into Muggia, where I took a 30 minute ferry ride right into the heart of Trieste. This approach into the busy city of Trieste is highly recommended because it is far safer and better than the high traffic main roads.

So that is it, my ride from Dubrovnik in the south of Croatia to Trieste in Italy is now safely completed! Tomorrow I catch the train to Bologna in Italy for a couple of days R & R, then another train to Milan for a couple of days. My challenge there will be to find a bike shop to pack my bike in a cardboard box for the flight back to London on Monday. Looking forward to seeing my dear Melveta after a whole month apart, which is the longest time ever.

Thank you for following my blog, I hope you have enjoyed sharing my adventure.

Congratulations on completing your tour and on your wonderfull pictures. We, the two Swiss cyclists met you in the Hotel in Pula, (remember?) and spoke about the Ferry to Triest, We returned home 2 days ago, after a long and tireding train ride from Rijeka to Switzerland. Enjoy you stay in England and have a save return to Australia.

    • Hello Katharina and Heinz. It is so good to hear from you and I am glad you like the photos. Croatia is such a beautiful country it is impossible not to take lots of photos. My ride from Dubrovnik to Trieste was the best thing I have ever done, it just went too quick. Still I have two months in UK to look forward to and no doubt do some riding there. By the time I get back to Sydney mid-August it will be almost spring. Best wishes, Kevin

    Hello Kevin
Where are you riding your bike right now? Are you back to Australia? I hope you enjoyed Italy. Ciao!

    • Hi Linda. Good to hear from you. I really enjoyed my two days in Bologna and two days in Milano. It was great to be back in Italy enjoying the good food! I am currently in London and don’t fly back to Sydney until 13th August. I am doing lots of riding around London and am thinking of doing a 5 day mini tour next week around Essex, Hertfordshire, and Buckinghamshire counties (see maps at https://www.kevinellwood.com/?page_id=3883 ). Then maybe towards the end of July I might slip over to France todoa bit of riding there (but not in the Tour de France). Are you doing much riding in Italy? Kevin.
