Relaxing in Rovinj

Croatia Bike Tour – Sat 6th Jun 2015 – Rest day in Rovinj

After taking my time over a healthy breakfast in my apartment I went for a stroll around the Old Town, finding little laneways and alleys that I missed yesterday. It’s all immaculate! As I was walking along the harbour front looking for another photographic angle on Saint Euphemia’s church, I met a cyclist from Amsterdam who had just ridden from Poreč where I am headed tomorrow. I photographed him with the church in the background and he photographed me with the church in the background.

Another 32 degree day is predicted so I decided to go for a ride early along the Punta Corrente Biciklisticka to the forest park before it gets too hot. I was assuming that “Biciklisticka” meant bike path but now I realise it means rocky path fit only for mountain bikes. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable riding around the waterfront past clear blue beaches with lots of people in the water. Most of them were clothed but there was one old man proudly displaying his masculinity to the world. Then the rocky path took me through a lovely, fresh smelling, pine forest, with many rock climbers doing their best not to break their necks.

Now it is time to stroll down to the harbourside and choose from one of the many gelaterias for my daily treat, then decide on a restaurant for tonight. Last night I ate at Trattoria Dream which is only about twenty metres from my apartment. This stylish trattoria gets a mention in Lonely Planet for its interesting dishes such as salt-baked sea bass. The food was good but the bill ended up higher than expected because they charge extra for the water and bread, even if you don’t order it.

Not sure if you are a soccer fan but if you saw the Champions League final today, I’m sure the locals probably got behind Barcelona as they have one of their national players in that team. Ivan Rakitic. They love their football

Hi Kevin, how about starting your own Bike Touring Company with you as the guide and tour leader! We will be there, but may need more stop-overs as we aren’t as fit as you. Enjoying your site very much, great photos as well, kind regards, Judy

    • Hi Judy. What a good job that would be, doing something you love and making money from it! I wish I had thought of it twenty years ago. If I wasn’t fit when I started in Dubrovnik three weeks ago then I am now after all those 400 m high hills. Feeling pretty good at this stage of the trip, with no ailments, injuries, illnesses or niggles … touch wood. Glad that GGG struck some good weather last week and was able to get a good ride in.Kind regards, Kevin
