Restful Rab

Croatia Bike Tour – Sun 31st May 2015 – Rest day in Rab

Today was supposed to be a rest day, but my bike was feeling neglected so I took it for a spin around the bay and took some more pictures of the harbour from the other side. Returning to the village I had the usual gelato then gave my bike some love, cleaning the rubber off the rims, sanding the brake pads and adjusting them.

There was a group of senior cyclists having coffee at a caffe bar, so I went over and started chatting to a couple of them who spoke a little English. They were on a cruise-ride holiday, based on a boat and riding on the islands during the day.

Having managed to get all my washing dry, I went downstairs and sat for a while on the foreshore watching the boats and the world go by, then wandered the cobbled streets of this quaint medieval town. Not a bad life on a perfect sunny last day of spring.

Never come to Rab without dining at the Konoba Rab Trattoria, which I would rate even better than Labirint last night. The Sea Fruits Risotto was the best risotto I have ever had and the Grilled Mackerel was simply delicious. Kvarner region food at it best and excellent service and decor as well! What a way to end a fabulous stay in the delightful town of Rab.

HI Kevin, just read your full Blog and viewed the photos. great reading and love the snaps. (Take some selfies with one of those extension poles) Must be difficult to plan the timing of your rides as it must be so tempting to stop every few minutes to take in the scenery and take all the photos. Will pick your brain for best places when you get back to help plan my trip

  2. Hi Neil. The good thing about cycle touring is that you can stop quickly anywhere on the road (even on a mountain bend) whenever you see a photo opportunity – and there are plenty of those in Croatia. But yes I have to keep an eye on my watch when I have a ferry to catch like the 9:45 am this morning at Lopar. We must catch up after I get back in Sydney mid-August. Elvis is a great source of information too. Cheers, Kevin.
