“A lot of fun stuff happens when you go out on a bike compared to when you’re in a car. You’re more in the environment. It’s enjoyable. Even when It’s raining It’s still fun.” ~ Stone Gossard

There will be blue birds over the white cliffs of … Møn Island!

When I awoke this morning I had to decide between having a rest day in Stege or going for a 50 Km bike ride to explore Møn Island and Cliffs. Seeing the blue sky outside made the decision a no brainer … it was definitely cycling weather.

But first I had to find somewhere for breakfast. Then I remembered passing an interesting coffee shop yesterday claiming to make the best coffee in town so I thought I would put their claims to the test. Good decision! This was easily the best cappuccino since I left Sydney, made with a real coffee machine by a self-taught barista who knows his trade. No press button machine coffee here!

Feeling good after my caffeine hit, I headed off in an anti-clockwise direction around the island, passing through dramatic scenery and quaint villages until at the 29 Km mark I came to the remarkable white cliffs. Leaving my bicycle at the top I climbed down about 500 wooden steps, walked about 500 m on smooth grey pebbles around the seashore below, climbed up 500 steps, and then walked about 500 m through shady forest at the top of the cliffs. Was it worth it? I will leave it for you to check out the photos of the white cliffs and be the judge.

Fortunately I had saved just enough energy to make the 20 Km back to Stege. Even the stiff headwind all the way could not detract from an excellent day of riding and walking. What sustained me was the thought of that coffee shop, which is where I am headed now to enjoy another cup of the best coffee in town!

    Happy riding?!!
