“Think of all the beauty around you and be happy” ~ Anne Frank

YES, WE MADE IT SAFELY TO MELBOURNE! Today we just wanted to savour our last day of riding together. Mateship has helped us make it through!

The day started perfectly. While waiting at the Cowes Jetty for the 9 am ferry to Stony Point, Sharad helped a young lad untangle his line that was caught up with somebody else’s then helped him re-rig. In appreciation, the lad offered Sharad to fish with his rod and, low and behold, before long he had caught two nice mackerels!

Waiting for us when we arrived at Stony Point was Sharad’s friend Bruce and his mate Brett, ready to escort us into Melbourne. We really appreciated them there to greet us, yet another example of the wonderful people and kindness we have enjoyed on this trip. It was a ride to remember, particularly the amazing Peninsular Link Cycleway that we followed for much of the stage.

Arriving in Melbourne there was a tremendous feeling of elation, but with a tinge of sadness that our Sydney to Melbourne journey has finished. We are now looking forward to putting our feet up and enjoying spending the next few days staying with Bruce and Rosemary in their lovely bayside home before flying back to Sydney.

Here are the final statistics of our ride:

Distance: 1,163 Km
Time in saddle: 84 hr
Total meters climbed: 11,731 m (c.f. Everest 8,848 m)
Average Daily Distance: 61 Km
Max speed 73 kph
Calories burnt: 39,902
Calories consumed: ???
Jars of butt cream: 2

We really appreciate all the support we have received from so many people around the world, not only the wonderful people we have met along the way, who have extended kindness to us, but also those who have followed our progress and given us encouragement.
