Like dogs, bicycles are social catalysts that attract a superior category of people” ~ Chip Brown

Another fantastic day of riding, this time shared with a friend from Padua (Padova) who came to Vicenza yesterday to ride today’s leg with me. It was fantastic having the benefit of Volker’s local knowledge, as he was able to show me points of interest that I would not otherwise have seen and gave me all the history.

When we arrived at Padua it was lunch time so he took me to a great little Palestinian restaurant right near Basilica di Santa Giustina, then took me to the amazing Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua before taking me to the Casa where I am staying for two nights.

Situated on the Bacchiglione River, Padua is a city of more than 200,000 people. It is located in the Veneto area of northen Italy about 40 kilometres west of Venice where I will be riding to on Friday. From what I have seen so far the city is very picturesque, with arcaded streets opening into large communal piazza. One attraction that impressed me was the Prato della Valle, which is the largest square in Italy and features many beautiful statues.

There will be lots more to report on after I have had a chance to explore the city further, but right now I am going to gets some thoughts together for the presentation Volker had invited me to give to his bike club tonight. It probably won’t matter too much what I say because most of the attendees only speak Italian.
